2018 National Landcare Awards – Kingborough Finalist

The National Landcare Awards celebrate the achievements of Landcare volunteers around the country who dedicate their valuable time and energy into caring for the land and water that sustain us.

This year Kingborough Council has been nominated as a finalist in the 2018 Awards in the category of Australian Government Partnerships for Landcare.

Council supports 24 Landcare groups in the Kingborough municipality.  We undertake joint initiatives with Landcare Tasmania to build skills across Landcare groups, providing training workshops for group members and participating in Landcare Tasmania’s member outreach barbeques.  Council grows plants for group planting projects in our nursery and also provides plant guards, stakes and weed mats. Council representatives regularly attend group meetings, and Council has a dedicated officer who is available to provide technical advice and source materials for landowners.

All finalists, including Kingborough, are also in the running to win the People’s Choice Award.  A highly-coveted prize, this award is presented to the finalist who receives the most votes from the general public in the lead-up to the awards. The winner will be announced on Thursday, 11 October at the Awards gala dinner.

Voting is now open and closes on Wednesday, 10 October 2018.  Show your fellow Kingborough Landcarers some love and vote for them to win the People’s Choice Award.
