Salvaged Art Exhibition

Kingborough’s biennial Salvaged Art from Waste Exhibition is on again and looking for entries.

This year, Salvaged Art will focus on messages of hope.

Kingborough Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the exhibition offered a fun way for community members to redesign trash, into a creative art piece for display.

“To enter, we ask you to either upcycle an old mailbox or create a new mailbox using recycled, repurposed, or re-used materials.

“Your artwork needs to represent the theme of A Message of Hope.

Entry is open to all artists, hobbyists, young people, community groups and schools. The exhibition will run from Saturday 25 – Wednesday 29 September 10am-2pm.

The theme, ‘Messages of Hope” asks you to look beyond the fear and gloom that fills our media about the future and to show why hope, not fear, is our most powerful tool for tackling the planetary issues we face. Your message of hope should address either climate change or the COVID 19 global pandemic.

“Visitors to the exhibition will be encouraged to deliver their own message of hope to one of the mailboxes on display.

“Unfortunately, the amount of waste that the Kingborough community generates increases every year,” Cr Wriedt said.

“Though this project won’t solve this problem, it is a creative step towards reimagining how we think of waste and builds a focus on recycling and reuse.

“This project lets you transform something tossed out, into something beautiful for an art exhibition.

“As well as reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill, Council also wants to improve our community’s access to information and resources.

“On our website Council has numerous resources for our community, including videos to help residents deal with and use their waste in better ways.
