Autumn Burns in Kingborough

This autumn Council together with Tas Fire Service is planning to carry out fuel reduction burning in Denison Street Reserve and Boronia Hill Reserve. As well as being effective in reducing risk, it is also less damaging to the environment than manual clearing of vegetation.

Subject to the right weather conditions, Council along with the Tasmania Fire Service will begin the burn in:

  • Denison Street Reserve on the evening of Wednesday 4 May 2022
  • Boronia Hill Reserve on Saturday 7 & Sunday 8 May 2022

Please note closure of both Reserves will occur during burning operations and immediately after the burn until the reserve has been declared safe to re-open to the public.

If the weather is not suitable on these dates, the burns will be postponed to the following

  • Denison Street Reserve Wednesday 11th May 2022
  • Boronia Hill Reserve on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th May 2022

If weather conditions prevent the burns from going ahead on these dates, it will be postponed until autumn 2023.

Residents are advised that given the fire will be a low intensity burn, there may be significant smoke generated and residents who may be susceptible to respiratory ailments should take the necessary precaution to avoid inhalation of smoke.

Nearby residents are advised to keep windows shut and avoid outside airing of laundry during the day of the burn. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn.

Further advice on the potential health effects of smoke exposure can be obtained from:

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to people as a result of smoke from the planned burn but smoke is an unavoidable consequence of reducing bushfire fuels to make communities safer.
