Smoke-Free Area Declared

Kingborough Council has declared Kingston Park and its adjoining open space area to be a smoke-free area.

Paula Wriedt, Kingborough Mayor said a smoke free park would improve the health and wellbeing of everyone who used the park.

“Declaring the whole of Kingston Park, including the walking tracks and BBQ shelters contained in the soon to be open space, smoke free is an important consistent message.

“I’m really glad we have decided unanimously to make the whole of the park smoke free,” Cr Wriedt said.

“Kingston Park is extremely popular and providing an area that is smoke-free is an important community message to send to our young persons.”

The declaration of a smoke-free area makes it an offence under Section 67C of the Public Health Act 1997 to smoke within the perimeter of the smoke-free area.
