Reference Group for Sport & Recreation

Council is seeking community members with an interest in sport and recreation to form a reference group to assist in the development of a new strategy.

Kingborough Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the reference group would be able to provide advice on what resources needed to be invested into recreational infrastructure and activities in Kingborough.

“The group would determine the most appropriate model for a sport and recreation strategy for Kingborough,” Cr Wriedt said.

“This includes identifying stakeholders, recommending consultation mechanisms and assisting in the prioritising actions contained within the final plan.

“We imagine that the reference group would meet regularly throughout the first half of 2023.

Chair of the Sport and Recreation Reference Group, Kaspar Deane said anyone who is keen to become a member just needed to submit an expression of interest in writing to Council.

“If you are interested in representing your community and advocating for the sport and recreation sector in Kingborough let us know in your written expression what your involvement in the sector has been and why you think you would be a good choice,” said Cr Deane.

“It will be up to the group to set their own meetings times, according to their availability and be made up of 14 members.”

The reference group would be disbanded once it had developed the final strategy, unless otherwise agreed.

Expressions of interest should be sent to kc@kingborough.tas.gov.au by 5pm Friday 10 March 2023. The date has been extended to ensure everyone interested can apply.

If further information is required in relation to this matter, please contact Council’s Director of Governance, Recreation and Property, Daniel Smee on 6211 8200.

Councillor Kaspar Deane was appointed as the Chair of the Group and will be assisted by Councillor Aldo Antolli and Amanda Midgley.
