Men’s Health Issues and Initiatives

Mayor, Paula Wriedt said although Australia is one of the world’s healthiest societies, men of all backgrounds are less likely than women to live healthy lives.

“Men die younger, experience more disease and have less access to support services,” Cr Wriedt said.

“To better understand the issues concerning men’s health, Council is hosting a Tuesday Talks health presentation at the Kingborough Community Hub.

“The presentation is open for anyone over 65 who would like to learn more about better health outcomes for everyone.

“This talk aims to highlight the issues faced by many men, particularly as people get older and looks at the initiatives which are in the community to support better outcomes for our menfolk.

“The health session has presentations from Jacob Roberts, from Health Promotion South team and local Men’s group organiser Dave Puls.

“David is the organiser of the local men’s health initiative the ‘Men’s Table’ a low-key way for men to get together and develop a friendly supportive network based on trust and acceptance.

“The session runs from 10.30am to 12pm on Tuesday 5 March and is free with morning tea provided.”
