Kingborough Sports Precinct

Kingborough Sports Precinct update

Preparations are underway to ensure the Kingborough Sports Precinct is ready for construction to begin on a new oval, with community stakeholders being advised of upcoming changes across the precinct.

Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said that to prepare for the construction work, some community infrastructure in the area would have to be temporarily closed and some permanently relocated.

“The Mountain Bike Park and pump track, Kingston View Drive off-lead dog exercise area and the Southern Obedience Club dog training area would all be closed on 31 May, 2026 to prepare for construction work in the area,” Cr Wriedt said.

“The closures will remain in place to maintain public safety for the duration of construction works associated with the Tasmania Devils AFL High Performance Centre, Oval 3 and related infrastructure.

“The Kingston View Drive off-lead dog exercise area, including the designated greyhound area, will relocate to Maddocks Road, Kingston soon after the closure.

“The Southern Obedience Club will also be relocated, with Council continuing to work closely with the Club on proposed alternative sites.

“Planning for the replacement of the Kingborough Mountain Bike Park has commenced, with a draft design available.

“Community feedback on the draft Mountain Bike Park design will be invited next year, giving riders and local users the opportunity to help shape the future facility.

“Council is also exploring options for a temporary pump track in an alternative location to provide an interim riding facility during construction.

“Tenders for Oval 3 have closed and documentation for the Oval 4 and Gormley Drive development application is progressing well.

“Planned upgrades to Gormley Drive will improve safety and access, and include new road surfacing, upgraded drainage, additional parking, new footpaths, pedestrian wombat crossings, improved lighting and a new dedicated bus stop.

“Council encourages the community to stay informed by signing up for updates through Council’s Sports Precinct newsletter,” Cr Wriedt said.
