Councillor Christian Street has been elected Deputy Mayor by a ballot of Councillors at the Kingborough Council meeting held on Monday, 18 May 2026.
Mayor Paula Wriedt congratulated Cr Street on his appointment, following the departure of former Deputy Mayor, Cr Clare Glade-Wright who was recently elected to the Tasmanian Legislative Council.
“Cr Street was successfully elected as the new Deputy Mayor following a vote by our current Councillors,” Cr Wriedt said.
“Cr Street is a highly experienced councillor having been first elected in 2018.
“He will provide strong leadership in a calm and thoughtful way until the October 2026 elections.
“Cr Street will then step into the role of Acting Mayor when I finish on Wednesday, 27 May 2026,” Cr Wriedt said.
Under the Local Government Act 1993, a resignation occurring less than six months before the issue of writs for the next election does not trigger a recount.
