Kingborough Council CEO Dave Stewart said elected members would vote to appoint a new Deputy Mayor at the Council meeting on 18 May 2026.
“Following the election of Deputy Mayor, Cr Clare Glade Wright to the Tasmanian Legislative Council, Council will need to appoint a new Deputy Mayor at its next meeting,” Mr Stewart said.
“Under the Local Government Act 1993, a resignation occurring less than six months before the issue of writs for the next election does not trigger a by-election.
“A new Deputy Mayor will be selected by a vote of Councillors and will step into the role of Acting Mayor when Mayor Paula Wriedt resigns on 27 May 2026.
“I would like to thank Cr Glade Wright for her time on Council and wish her every success in her new role as the Member for Huon in the Tasmanian Legislative Council.”
