Kingborough Council’s 2026/27 budget includes a strong focus on digital transformation designed to improve services, strengthen cyber security, and make it easier for the community to interact with Council.
Acting Mayor Christian Street said the Digital Strategy investment focused on practical improvements to enhance the community’s experience and deliver better services.
“This is about modernising how Council works, making it easier for the community to deal with us, improving cyber security, and finding efficiencies across the organisation,” Cr Street said.
“Upgrades will eventually provide a single online portal where people can access services, make payments, and track their requests in one place.
“These changes will make it easier for residents and businesses to access services at a time that suits them, including outside normal business hours.
“At the same time, improved systems behind the scenes will boost productivity and help staff deliver the services and programs the community values.
“The digital program also includes a strong focus on cyber security, with investment to improve Council’s protection against cyber risks and service disruption.
The CEO, Dave Stewart said the Digital Strategy would be rolled out over several years.
“Traditional service options will be still available, ensuring no one is left behind,” Mr Stewart said.
“The result will be a better experience for everyone, whether they engage online, over the phone or face to face, recognising that people have different levels of confidence with technology.
“Some of the most important digital investments won’t always be visible, including upgrades to CCTV systems, which will improve our ability to work with Tasmania Police and help provide a safer community.
“If we want to remain responsive, accessible and sustainable into the future, we can’t keep doing everything the way we’ve always done it.
“That is why this is an important investment, ensuring Council can continue to meet the needs of our community, not just today, but for the next generation.”
The digital transformation strategy includes an investment of $1.35 million in the 2026/27 Budget and represents Council’s commitment to delivering accessible, secure and sustainable services for the Kingborough community.
