Council has recently carried out creek maintenance works in the Whitewater, Coffee and Mary Knoll Creek reserves.
Acting Mayor Christian Street said are vital community assets that support biodiversity, connect neighbourhoods, and provide spaces for recreation and reflection.
“The work included removing fallen branches, accumulated debris and rubbish that were obstructing the creek line and stormwater infrastructure, helping to improve water flow and reduce flood risk to nearby homes and businesses across the creek system,” Cr Street said.
“At Whitewater Creek, approximately 10 cubic metres of branches and debris were removed.
“This also included two ute-loads of rubbish, such as three shopping trolleys, pieces of dumped concrete, bricks and various metal items.
“At Coffee Creek, crews removed several large branches, fallen logs and other woody debris that were impacting water flow.
“They also collected multiple bags of litter, along with larger dumped items including sections of sheet metal found within the creek area.
“At Mary Knoll Creek, six ute-loads of debris, vegetation and rubbish were removed.
“These works were undertaken with careful consideration of the creek system’s integrity, stability and habitat values, as well as the safety and experience of community members using these areas during the project.
“It was great to see many community members stop to share positive feedback and compliment the quality and care taken during the works,” Cr Street said.
