Construction of a new concrete footpath along Esplanade in Snug is set to commence on Monday, 3 August.
Acting Mayor Christian Street said the new footpath will be constructed between the Channel Highway and Cutana Parade, completing a key missing link in Snug’s footpath network and creating a continuous route for pedestrians.
“The new footpath will complete an important missing section of footpath and provide a safer, more accessible connection for people walking through Snug,” Cr Street said.
“Work involves brand new stormwater infrastructure to replace the existing open drains, new retaining walls, kerb, gutters and a concrete footpath.
“Investments like this help make our communities more walkable and improve access to local services, public spaces and recreational areas.”
To allow the works to be completed safely, Esplanade between the Channel Highway and Cutana Parade will be closed from Monday, 3 August.
Construction is expected to continue over the next couple of months.
Motorists travelling to and from the Channel Highway are asked to use Beach Road as an alternative route and follow all traffic management signage and directions.
“Council thanks residents and road users for their patience and cooperation while these important improvements are delivered for the Snug community,” said Cr Street.
