Kingborough Council has marked the Tasmania JackJumpers’ move to their new High Performance Centre in Kingston by formally handing back the club’s premiership flag, a symbol of the strong connection built between the club and the Kingborough community over the past five years.
Acting Mayor Christian Street said the flag had proudly hung in the Kingborough Sports Centre since the JackJumpers’ championship-winning season and was recently presented to club representatives by KSC staff for their new facility home.
“We are incredibly proud to have played a small part in the club’s journey and to have watched the JackJumpers grow into NBL Champions,” Cr Street said.
“For the past five years, the JackJumpers have called the Kingborough Sports Centre home, using the facility each weekday morning for training and establishing their coaching and player base here in Kingston.
“During that time, the club has regularly engaged with local schools, community groups and aspiring young athletes through clinics and community programs held at the centre.
“While we will miss having the JackJumpers based in the Sports Centre every day, their move opens up valuable space for additional community use.
“The increased availability of court space will provide greater opportunities for schools and community groups to access the facility for court bookings during the morning for activities such as basketball, netball, futsal and pickleball.
Council looks forward to continuing its strong partnership with the club as the Kingborough Sports Precinct continues to develop as a premier sporting destination for Tasmania.
