Share the path with all users

Council is encouraging everyone to follow simple safety practices when out enjoying Kingborough’s growing network of shared paths tracks and trails.

Acting Mayor Christian Street said shared paths were designed to be enjoyed by a range of users, including walkers, runners, cyclists and people exercising their dogs.

“Kingborough’s shared paths are popular community assets that provides opportunities for recreation, exercise and active transport,” Cr Street said.

“Whether you’re walking, running, cycling or out with your dog, a little courtesy and awareness can help ensure everyone enjoys these spaces safely.”

Council encourages all path users to:

  • Keep to the left side of the path
  • Slow down and provide a warning when approaching others on a bicycle
  • Move off the path when stopping
  • Keep dogs on a lead and under control

Kingborough Bicycle Advisory Committee (KBAC) member Eddie Jager shared his experience.

“Kingborough Council has done a terrific job creating accessible bike paths for our community, but it’s up to all of us to keep them safe,” said Mr Jager.

“As a cyclist with a disability, Kingborough’s accessible bike paths have opened up a level of independence and freedom I really value.

“But accessible infrastructure only works if it’s genuinely shared.

“Some people using these paths may have slower reaction times, use mobility aids, or need a bit more space and time to respond.

“Please slow down, ring your bell or give a friendly warning when approaching others, and keep left except when passing.

“A little awareness makes these fantastic facilities safe and welcoming for everyone,” Mr Jager said.
