Kingborough residents are encouraged to declutter, recycle and share with others when Tasmania’s most generous market, the Really Really Free Market, returns to the Kingborough Community Hub on Saturday, 3 October.
Acting Mayor Christian Street said the popular community event provides an opportunity for residents to pass on good quality reusable items and help reduce waste going to landfill.
“The Really Really Free Market is a fantastic example of community generosity in action, giving unwanted items a second life while helping others find something they can use and enjoy,” Acting Mayor Street said.
“It’s a simple idea with significant benefits. Items that might otherwise end up in landfill are reused, repurposed and shared within the community.”
October is Buy Nothing New Month and this market will feature over 35 tables of free items, with residents invited to browse and take home pre-loved treasures at no cost.
Acting Mayor Street said the initiative reflects Council’s commitment to sustainability and waste reduction while supporting community connections.
“Many households have quality items tucked away that are no longer needed.
“The Really Really Free Market provides a great opportunity to clear some space, reduce waste and contribute to a circular economy,” Acting Mayor Street said.
“It’s also a wonderful community event that brings people together and demonstrates how small actions can make a positive difference for both our environment and our community.”
The Really Really Free Market will run from 12noon to 1pm on Saturday, 3 October at the Kingborough Community Hub.
