National Tree Day

July 26 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

This is a free family-friendly community event. All welcome. There will be guided walks, displays, children’s activities and a BBQ. Please bring your own water bottle and reusable hot drink cup.

At this year’s National Tree Day, we will plant to strengthen an important bushland link on North Bruny Island. This bushland corridor provides habitat and allows the safe movement of animals between the coast and the hills.

Bruny Island is a global biodiversity hotspot and home to all 12 Tasmanian endemic birds, including the forty-spotted pardalote and swift parrot. Healthy habitat on Bruny Island is the most important factor in saving these two critically endangered birds.

It will be a team effort to get the 1000 native plants in the ground – a diverse range of locally native plants, grown in the Council nursery from seeds sourced locally. Make a purposeful visit and help care for this special place!

We will be celebrating Bruny with the displays from local projects and local organisations, information on how to get involved and talks about interesting activities. Come with your enthusiasm and take home new knowledge, a sense of achievement and some new connections.

DÉntrecasteaux Drive is off Apollo Bay Road and is a 5min drive from the ferry terminal. The reserve will be well signposted. Please follow sign for parking areas. Pedestrian access to the site from the main parking area is down a short steep track or via a longer but flatter route. If you need to reduce the length of this second option, there is a small amount of accessible parking that will cut down the distance.

By foot from the ferry terminal the site is about 30minute walk. The route will be marked with flagging tape. Email bjupe@kingborough.tas,gov,au  for a route map and directions.

Registration is not necessary but helps us to plan for the event. Register here: Kingborough Council hosts National Tree Day on Bruny Island Tree Day Site Details
