National Tree Day at Apollo Bay, Bruny Island

30 July, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join this great family friendly fun day out in nature with planting, guided walks, local experts and informative displays!

This year’s Kingborough National Tree Day will be at Apollo Bay, Bruny Island.

This is a free community event, hot drinks and lunch are available.

Everything you need is provided – just wear good solid shoes and clothes that can get muddy. It is often cold, so rug up. You can bring gardening gloves and a water bottle or cup so we can minimise waste.

About the planting area:

This small area of trees connects the coastal reserve to the forested hillside allowing the safe passage of many animals.

The white gums on site are home to the local forty-spotted pardalote colony. The blue and black gums provide habitat for the swift parrots. Bruny Island is a critical place for both these threatened species.

Many other animals and plants call this area home. Our planting site will increase their habitat and help keep this narrow bit of bush healthy.

How to get there: Access to the site is off D’Entrecasteaux Drive, Apollo Bay. From the Ferry terminal, follow Bruny Island Main Road for about 2km and turn right onto Apollo Bay Road. D’Entrecasteaux Drive is about 1.8km on the right. Follow the signs to the planting site.

There is plenty of parking along the road. The site can be accessed by walking from the ferry terminal, however it will take about 45min.

This event will be held in cooperation with Planet Ark.
