The Minister for Planning issued a Housing Land Supply Order for Huntingfield which came into effect on 18 March 2020. The housing order provides a fast track process for land rezoning to accelerate the supply of affordable housing. The Order introduced a new Specific Area Plan (SAP) into Kingborough’s Planning Scheme. A copy of the order and the Kingborough Interim Planning Scheme 2015 can be viewed here:
The SAP requires a Master Plan for subdivision of the land (Clause F5.8.1).
The draft Master Plan has been completed and will deliver a broad mix of around 470 residential lots, as well public amenities and open spaces to serve the needs of the local community. The Tasmanian Government will deliver the subdivision in conjunction with private sector partners but will retain at least 15 per cent of the lots to deliver new social and affordable housing.
The public consultation on the draft Master Plan has concluded and the feedback is now being considered by the State Government to finalise the plan before it is submitted to the Kingborough Council for endorsement.
Once the Master Plan has been approved, a Planning Permit application will need to be submitted to Council for assessment. The normal planning process will be undertaken, including public notification, where the application will be advertised, and representations can be submitted by the public. Details of the Planning Process are available on our website.
