The Minister for Planning issued a Housing Land Supply Order for Huntingfield which came into effect on 18 March 2020. The housing order provides a fast track process for land rezoning to accelerate the supply of affordable housing. The Order introduced a new Specific Area Plan (SAP) into Kingborough’s Planning Scheme. A copy of the order and the Kingborough Interim Planning Scheme 2015 can be viewed here:
The SAP requires a Master Plan for subdivision of the land (Clause F5.8.1). The draft Master Plan has been completed and the Tasmanian Government has released it for public consultation.
The Master Plan will deliver a broad mix of around 470 residential lots, as well public amenities and open spaces to serve the needs of the local community. The Tasmanian Government will deliver the subdivision in conjunction with private sector partners but will retain at least 15 per cent of the lots to deliver new social and affordable housing.
The development of the Master Plan and associated public consultation process is led by the State Government and any enquiries about the Master Plan and/or submissions should be directed to the State Government, rather than Council. Once the Master Plan has been approved, a Planning Permit application will need to be submitted to Council for assessment. The normal planning process will be undertaken, including public notification, where the application will be advertised, and representations can be submitted by the public.
