Intro to Nordic Walking

What is Nordic Walking?

  • It is a fun way to exercise and meet others.
  • It is a low-impact exercise that uses the upper body as well as the legs and hips.
  • It provides stability for those of us who may be less steady on our feet.
  • It uses poles combined with a particular stride or technique which reduces pressure on the lower body, making walking a lot easier.
  • By using the upper body when walking, the load is spread across more muscle groups and enables a longer stride.
  • It helps to promote correct gait and posture, improves stability and provides the great benefits for health, wellness and fitness of all ages and fitness levels.

Participants will be taught the basics of Nordic Walking and the area around Snug offers the perfect place to try this exercise. It has grass, sand, bitumen and gravel just outside the doors, so walkers get to try the poles on a variety of surfaces.

Poles are provided, however we ask for you to please:

  • Wear comfortable shoes.
  • Wear a hat, sunscreen and bring water.

Cost is a gold coin donation.

Bookings are essential; please contact Council’s Community Development Officer on (03) 6211 8170.
