Volunteering

Volunteering can be as fulfilling for the volunteer, as it is to the person who receives the services. When you volunteer, you’re not just helping others – you’re helping yourself. Volunteering leads to new discoveries and new friends. Studies show that volunteering helps you live longer and promotes a positive outlook on life.

There are a number of volunteer programs supported by Kingborough Council:

Kingborough Volunteer Program

The Kingborough Volunteer Program assists people aged 65 and over with basic support services allowing them to continue living independently in the community.

Volunteering for just one or two hours can be very rewarding. Volunteering once a week, once a fortnight or even just once a month can benefit a member of the community who, through illness, disability or frailty cannot carry out normal day to day tasks.

The Kingborough Volunteer Program is a Centrelink approved provider.

The program is able to provide limited mileage reimbursement for use of your own vehicle.

Some of the support services our volunteers do include:

  • befriending
  • pet support
  • shopping assistance
  • transport to medical or other appointments
  • light gardening
  • telephone support
  • social support.
