Volunteering can be as fulfilling for the volunteer, as it is to the person who receives the services. The Kingborough Volunteer Program offers a full range of volunteer opportunities including:
- assisting clients to stay in their own homes
- improving the quality of their lives by spending time with clients
- meeting other community focused people
- sharing the skills you have gained over your lifetime and gain new ones
- attending free ongoing training and information sessions.
When you volunteer, you’re not just helping others – you’re helping yourself. Volunteering leads to new discoveries and new friends. Studies also show that volunteering helps you live longer and promotes a positive outlook on life.
Kingborough boasts the most Landcare groups in Tasmania and Council supports a range of other activities and organisations in caring for our natural environment. Visit the Landcare & Coastcare page for more information.
Kingborough Volunteer Program
The Kingborough Volunteer Program assists people aged 65 and over who need basic support services to continue to live in the community with dignity.
Volunteering for just one or two hours can be very rewarding. Volunteering once a week, once a fortnight or even just once a month can benefit a member of the community who, through illness, disability or frailty cannot carry out normal day to day tasks.
The Kingborough Volunteer Program is a Centrelink approved provider.
The program is able to provide limited mileage reimbursement for use of your own vehicle.
Some of the support services our volunteers do include:
- pet support
- shopping assistance
- transport to medical or other appointments
- light gardening
- telephone support
- social support.
