Council and Kingborough Waste Services (KWS) ran a Recycling Truck Art Competition for primary-aged students in the Kingborough area, aged 4 to 12, to design an image to be printed on the side of Council’s Recycling truck.
The competition theme in 2025 was “Plastic bags don’t belong in the recycling bin”
Plastic bag contamination in recycling bins is a significant issue in Kingborough.
Some residents place recyclable items such as empty bottles, cardboard, and paper into plastic bags before disposing of them in the yellow recycling bin.
When recycling is placed in plastic bags, the entire bin’s contents may be sent to landfill, undoing the effort to recycle responsibly.
Students were invited to get creative and design artwork for a KWS recycling truck that highlights the message that plastic bags don’t belong in the recycling bin.
The competition closed on Friday, 26 September 2025 and the winners were announced during National Recycling Week in November. Link here: Winners of the Recycling Truck Art Competition – Kingborough Council
