Youth Arts and Performances

Kingborough Council is committed to supporting young people in the arts. Through collaboration between our youth and arts programs, we provide opportunities to build confidence, celebrate talent, and explore creative pathways for young people in the community.

Performing Arts

Kingborough’s Got Talent

Kingborough’s Got Talent is held every three years during National Youth Week at the Kingborough Performing Arts Centre (KPAC).

The event features:

  • A live audience
  • A panel of industry judges
  • A theatre-based MC

Auditions are held several months prior, with a call-out inviting young performers (aged 12 – 19) to showcase their talents, including (but definitely not limited to!):

  • Dance
  • Performing arts
  • Circus
  • Magic
  • Music

All performers have the opportunity to work alongside a professional technical team as part of the live event experience.

The winning act receives a $1,000 prize to support their ongoing creative development.

Recent events were held in 2023 and 2026.

Youth Pantomime

In December 2025, Kingborough Council partnered with local theatre production company Isabella Rose Stage Company (IRSC) to produce a pantomime, A Christmas Carol.

Auditions were held during the school holidays, followed by rehearsals held twice a week in the lead-up to the performance.

This initiative provided young people with the opportunity to:

  • Participate in a professional-scale theatrical production
  • Gain hands-on performance experience
  • Work alongside an experienced local production company
  • Be involved in both performance and stage design

Costumes, as well as sound and lighting elements, were delivered by young professionals as part of the production.

Following its success, we hope to deliver the program again in 2027.

Music

Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands is held every three years during National Youth Week at the Kingborough Community Hub for high school and college-aged students.

This event showcases young bands performing live, supported by:

  • A panel of industry judges
  • A professional event setting

The winning band receives the opportunity to record a song at a local recording studio, supporting them to take the next step in their musical journey.

Battle of the Bands was held in 2024 and is scheduled to take place again in 2027.

Visual Arts

The Kingborough Art Prize

The Kingborough Art Prize is held annually in partnership with the Lions Club.

In 2025, a youth category (ages 12–18) was introduced, giving young artists the chance to:

  • Exhibit their work
  • Be recognised alongside established artists
  • Sell their work in a gallery setting
