John Street Reconstruction

One-way system in effect from 2 September 2019

Kingborough Council is upgrading roads within central Kingston as identified in its five-year capital works plan.

Roads that will be upgraded over the coming year include John Street and Channel Highway. These upgrades will improve the road network and usability in central Kingston.

The design of the remainder of Goshawk Way, including the roundabout connection with the Huon Highway, along with the design for the road and pedestrian elements of Pardalote Parade will also commence.

  • Works to upgrade John Street will start on Monday 19 August 2019 and are expected to be completed in early 2020 (weather permitting).
  • The upgrades will occur over the full length of the street, excluding the Channel Highway and Huon Highway intersections. The reconstruction involves roadworks, stormwater works, utility services, landscaping and water mains renewal.
  • A new temporary car park will also be developed as part of the work, which will be accessed off Skipper Lane within Kingston Park. This car park will replace the existing temporary car park on the south of the site where the first stage of residential development will occur.
  • There will be traffic disruption throughout the course of the works, which also include utility upgrades. Access to businesses will continue, however there may be one-way systems in place.

Council will release further information about any changes to traffic flow on its website and social media channels. Council apologises for any inconvenience and appreciates the community’s patience while we carry out this work.

The redevelopment of Kingston Park and the revitalisation of central Kingston is the most important development opportunity within Kingborough.

With its new Community Hub and a large playground to be constructed in 2020, plus residential and commercial developments, Kingston Park will be a ‘game changer’ for Kingston.  It will be both a place of community connection and a catalyst for new services and investment.

An information report is updated every quarter, and published on Council’s website at
