Kingborough Council offers kerbside collection services for household rubbish and recycling.
We currently arrange weekly collection for approximately 12,000 households across Kingborough and we are looking to expand this service.
To upgrade/downgrade/replace/add a bin for your kerbside collection, please use the waste forms that can be found here.
There are two waste management facilities in Kingborough – a waste transfer facility at Barretta (previously a landfill site) and a waste transfer station at Main Road, North Bruny. The facilities are operated by Kingborough Waste Services. Through these facilities we can dispose of a range of drop-off materials, such as large general waste, recycling and green waste. See the Recreation & Facilities Map for exact locations.
Managing Waste in Kingborough
Council is currently considering a draft Waste Management Strategy for the municipality. The aim of the Strategy is to achieve a planned and collaborative approach to waste management in Kingborough. Community feedback on the draft has helped to shape the Strategy, making sure community needs and expectations have been considered in its development.
MRA Consulting Group was commissioned to assess the results while developing the Strategy, and four goals have been identified to deliver both a cost effective and efficient service for Kingborough residents. These goals are: increased recycling rates, best practice waste and resource recovery infrastructure, efficient and sustainable governance and effective community engagement.
The goals highlight actions such as increasing the size of recycling bins, considering the expansion of service collection areas and remote collection sites, introducing green waste bins and greater community engagement and communication on managing waste.
