FREE GREEN WASTE WEEKEND CANCELLED

Kingborough Mayor, Dean Winter, has announced the upcoming free green waste weekend will not go ahead.

The Free Green Waste weekend was scheduled for 25 & 26 April.

“Our free green waste weekends are always really popular,” Cr Winter said.

“We would typically see thousands of people coming through the gate to dispose of their green waste on these weekends.  Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate so many people on the site and observe the important social distancing rules that are now in place.

“Both Bruny Island and Barretta Waste Transfer Stations remain open and have measures in place to ensure social distancing can take place during normal trade.  You can still dispose of green waste at any time. We simply do not want to encourage a large number of people to descend upon the transfer station on one weekend during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A contractor has been selected to deliver the kerbside green waste collection commencing from 1 July. However, there are some challenges in commencing on this date due to the current Tasmanian border restrictions. There may delay this implementation for 3-6 months. We will let everyone know as soon as the commencement date is known.”
