Council has installed a temporary fence along the seaward edge of the Suncoast Track at the southern end of Blackmans Bay Beach, to ensure user safety. The fence will allow us to keep the track open and accessible to residents until a permanent solution can be developed.
Council has been monitoring the track as the area is subject to ongoing, and increasing, coastal erosion. Erosion is impacting the track and has caused the seaward edge of the track to subside in several places. This subsidence has caused crumbling edges and unstable gradients. A geotechnical investigation has confirmed coastal erosion will continue to impact this site.
Suncoast Track has experienced increased usage since the COVID-19 pandemic began. This has also caused additional erosion of the track edge.
