Connect with Nature Before Work

Take a walk in nature with us this Mental Health week.

Kingborough Mayor, Paula Wriedt said this Mental Health Week, Council was offering a series of walks before work in some of Kingborough’s beautiful reserves.

“We are celebrating how easy it is for us here in Kingborough to spend time in nature by offering guided walks with health practitioners and Council’s Natural Areas and Biodiversity Team,” Cr Wriedt said.

“Time spent in nature has healing qualities, promotes calmness and is a wonderful way to connect with your community.

“Some of us have very busy lives but that shouldn’t stop us reaping the benefits of nature, that’s why we are offering these walks early in the morning.

“From 8 am every day through Mental Health Week, you can take an easy stroll learning about our natural areas and enjoy the health benefits of nature with a health practitioner.

“Our bushland reserves, creek lines and coasts are public lands and are valuable resources for our well-being.

“Healthy natural landscapes lead to healthy people.”

Local GP and member of Doctors for the Environment, Dr Kate Bendall said spending time in nature has benefits for our health.

“By spending time in nature, you can decrease your blood pressure, reduce anxiety and negative thinking and improve your immune system,” Dr Bendall said.

“Research suggests the benefits of spending even a small amount of time in the natural environments, whether that be in bushlands and around waterways, all have a positive effect on our wellbeing.”
