Kingborough Seniors

Acting Mayor, Clare Glade-Wright said this Seniors Week 16 – 22 of October is a great time to raise awareness of all activities Council provided for older people in our community.

“Some of our most popular activities in Kingborough for older people are our Seasonal Walks which are such a great way to stay healthy and meet people,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

“Guided by Council’s Natural Areas Interpretation Officer, the program is informative as well as a great social outing.

“The next Seasonal Walk is scheduled for the 13 December and will be in one of our beautiful natural reserves.

“If you would like to attend, please register with our Community Development Officer on 6211 8200.

“If you would like to get out into nature on a regular basis, Council also runs a weekly walking session on Thursday mornings from 9.30am to 10 am in one of our stunning reserves.

“These sessions are called a Dose of Nature, you don’t need to book and are specifically chosen for their ease as well as what they offer in terms of local flora and uniqueness.

“These walks are supported by a health professional along with Council’s Natural Areas Interpretation Officer and are as much a meditation in nature as they are a regular social gathering. Details are on the Council website.

Throughout the year Council runs programs including Pop-Up Cafes with guest speakers as well as range of educational sessions in the Tuesday Talks series held on the first Tuesday of each month.

“If you are interested in building your digital skills for using MyGov, storing on the ‘cloud’, operating on social media as well as useful things like banking or accessing medicare online, please get in touch to talk about a program currently running.

“Kingborough also has a very vibrant and active community of volunteers who assist people aged 65 with basic help like transport to appointments, light gardening duties and pet support.

“Volunteering for just one or two hours can be very rewarding and can benefit a member of the community who, through illness, disability or frailty cannot carry out normal day to day tasks.”
