Kingborough Council is proudly supporting TasPride with its first Great Kingborough Bake Off on Saturday 17 February from 10am to 12pm.

Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the Kingborough Bake Off was part of the Council’s plan to improve LGBTIQA+ inclusiveness in the community.

“Open to everyone, the competition will feature a range of decorated cupcakes and cakes in three categories – decorated cupcakes for children under 12 years; decorated cake of choice with a ‘rainbow’ theme for young people 12 – 18 years and an open competition for a decorated cake addressing the TasPride theme ‘together we can.’

“Prizes will support local Kingborough businesses with first prize being a $500 Minimax voucher, 12-18 years a $200 Minimax voucher and the under 12’s a $100 voucher to spend at The Pancake Train Restaurant.

“Members of the community are asked to bake and decorate their own cakes at home for a chance to win a prize. The entries will be on display for the duration of the exhibition and taken home afterwards.

“While the cakes are being judged on appearance only, the community are welcome to come along, have a cuppa and put in a vote for the People’s Choice Award.

“There will also be cupcakes available to purchase by the Kingston and Channel branch of the Country Women’s Association, and teas and coffee provided.”

“Baking is a fun and creative way for the community to get involved” Cr Wriedt said.
