Kingborough Council is offering several free or low-cost health and wellbeing activities for the community from January to March 2025.
Mayor, Paula Wriedt said through the support of a Healthy Tasmania Lift Local Grant, Council was able to subsidise the activities for the community.
“Summer is a great time to build new healthier habits, and we have a variety of activities all designed to help you exercise and workout out every week,” Cr Wriedt said.
“We have a free walking group with a qualified fitness instructor Serlina who will guide you through the walks every Monday from 5.15 to 6.15pm.
“Council is also hosting a ‘Yoga for Stiff Folks’, which is a 4-week chair-based yoga class designed to improve strength and flexibility without floor exercises.
“Lunchtime fitness in the park is specifically tailored for individuals who are either new to exercise or wish to incorporate additional physical activity into their workday.
“Raised blood pressure (BP), or hypertension, is the single biggest risk factor responsible for preventable deaths worldwide so come along get your BP checked by registered nurse and diabetes educator, Heather Kennett.
“Fitter Together is a 4-week program designed to make fitness goals more achievable focusing on daily activity, nutrition, rest, recovery and wellbeing.
“Encouraging fitness and healthier lifestyles within our community not only improves individual well-being but also fosters stronger connections, reduces healthcare costs, and creates a more vibrant, resilient, and inclusive place for everyone to thrive.”
