Kingborough Council warmly invites local volunteers to celebrate National Volunteer Week at a sparkling reception with canapes, delicious food, live entertainment and great company on Friday, 23 May at the Kingborough Community Hub.
Kingborough Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the celebration is a way to honour the selfless individuals who generously give their time and energy to make Kingborough a vibrant, caring and connected community.
“The event is about recognising the invaluable contributions of volunteers across the region,” said Cr Wriedt.
“This is our chance to say thank you to the amazing people who make a real difference in Kingborough.
“According to 2021 ABS data, 16.1% of Kingborough residents engage in voluntary work through an organisation or group, compared to the national average of 10.6%, reflecting a strong level of volunteer engagement within our community.
“Their efforts support everything from environmental protection and local events, to emergency service, social services and community groups.
“It’s only fitting that we come together to celebrate their achievements.
“Guest speakers include Paul Pritchard, International Disability Awareness Educator and Sarah Wilcox, Chairperson of Volunteering Tasmania.
“This event also provides a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to connect, share stories, and celebrate each other’s work,” Cr Wriedt said.
This celebration replaces the former Kingborough Awards event and reflects Council’s renewed focus on highlighting and supporting volunteerism across all sectors of the community.
“Volunteers make an enormous difference to the lives of many in our community,” Cr Wriedt added.
“To every volunteer across Kingborough, thank you.
“Your commitment and compassion help make Kingborough the wonderful place it is to live.”
