Kingborough Council Celebrates Local Volunteers

Kingborough Council proudly hosted a vibrant celebration to recognise the incredible contributions of 163 volunteers from 60 diverse organisations across the region.

Held during National Volunteer Week, the event highlighted the strength of community spirit and the vital role volunteers play in Kingborough.

Mayor, Paula Wriedt opened the evening by expressing sincere thanks to all those who give their time to help others.

“This celebration is our way of saying thank you to the amazing people who make a real difference in Kingborough,” Cr Wriedt said.

“Kingborough Volunteer efforts support everything from environmental conservation and community events to emergency services and social groups.

Guest speaker Sarah Wilcox, Chair of Volunteering Tasmania, gave a warm Welcome to Country and shared insights into the value of volunteerism across Tasmania.

“One of the evening’s highlights was an inspiring talk by Paul Pritchard, international disability advocate and adventurer, who shared his experience trekking the 235km Larapinta Trail in Central Australia.

“Undertaken with a team of people living with disabilities, the journey was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with the support of dedicated volunteers.

The evening also featured delicious food, live music, and a welcoming, personal atmosphere that allowed volunteers to connect and celebrate their shared contributions.

“This special gathering replaces Council’s former Kingborough Awards and is a renewed commitment to celebrating all our local volunteers,” Cr Wriedt said.

“It’s inspiring to know that 16.1% of Kingborough residents are actively volunteering which is well above the national average.

“It speaks volumes about the generous, community-minded spirit we have here, and Council is proud to support and celebrate the people who help make our community stronger, more inclusive, and a kinder place to live.”
