Kingborough Sports Precinct Masterplan and AFL HPC

Council is inviting the community to attend upcoming information sessions to learn more about the plans for the Tasmania Devils Football Club High Performance Centre (HPC) and the future of the Kingborough Sports Precinct.

Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the sessions were an opportunity for residents to view the precinct concept plan, ask questions, and hear directly from those involved in the project.

The drop-in sessions will be held at Twin Ovals Function Centre – 35 Twin Ovals Road, Kingston:

  • Saturday 2 August, from 10am to 1pm
  • Wednesday 6 August, from 3pm to 6.30pm

“Community members will be able to meet with representatives from the Tasmania Devils Football Club, Kingborough Knights, Kingborough Tigers, Tasmania JackJumpers and the Project Team,” Cr Wriedt said.

“The sessions will provide clarity around the masterplan, including future changes to community facilities, and the long-term social and economic benefits this centre will bring to our region.

“In order to accommodate the Tasmania Devils Football Club within the sports precinct, two new ovals will be built for the Tigers and Knights teams, with one oval located above, and the other below the current Twin Ovals.

“In order to build the new ovals we will need to relocate some existing community facilities within the precinct.

“These include the Kingston View Drive off-lead dog exercise area, Southern Obedience Club and the Kingborough Mountain Bike Park.

“Council has been working closely with the existing sporting groups throughout the planning process, and the masterplan has their ongoing support.

“Any relocations or modifications will be undertaken in a way that maintains or enhances existing service levels and community access.

Tasmania Football Club CEO, Brendon Gale said he looked forward to the Club being represented at the upcoming drop-in sessions with community members.

“This project is of the utmost importance to our Club, with the development being our future home base for all of our on-field and off-field staff,” Mr Gale said.

“This project is significant in terms of its size and integration into the Kingborough Sports Precinct.

“We continue to work closely with our neighbours and look forward to engaging with the community more broadly to ensure that the project is understood and valued.

“With 33 sporting groups already based at the Kingborough Sports Precinct, including the Tasmanian JackJumpers, State Gymnastics Centre, and Kingston High School, the precinct will become a hub of premier sporting activity and we cannot wait to be a part of it.

“We’re looking forward to working with the community as the project progresses and ensuring that the precinct continues to grow as a welcoming and accessible space for everyone.”

The Tasmania Devils Football Club HPC project is funded by the AFL and the Tasmanian State Government, with Kingborough Council providing land and staff support.
