National Tree Day at Snug Beach foreshore

Help create a more resilient Kingborough this National Tree Day.

Put on your gloves and join neighbours, friends and local volunteers from 10am to 2pm on Sunday, 27 July 2025 to plant native seedlings at the Snug Beach foreshore.

This year’s National Tree Day will be supported by the Community Association of Greater Snug and the North West Bay Scout Group.

Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the event was a great opportunity for the community to come together.

“Each year we look forward to seeing our community come together for National Tree Day,” Cr Wriedt said.

“This year’s planting at Snug foreshore will play a special role to help hold the coastline in place, giving Council and the community time to plan and adapt to future conditions.

“The growing frequency and severity of storm events combined with rising sea levels are accelerating beach erosion, particularly in Snug and causing more frequent coastal flooding and damage.

“This year’s planting of over 1000 plants will help build a biodiverse dune and foreshore habitat, boosting the beach’s resilience to erosion impacts.

“The planting is part of a broader focus on planning for future climate impacts in Snug and aims to positively contribute to the long-term management of this much loved coastal area.

“We hope the local Snug community and residents from across Kingborough will join us for another fun and fulfilling day connecting with nature and growing our community.

“Whether you’ve joined us before or it’s your first time, we look forward to seeing you there,” Cr Wriedt said.

Registration information is available on Kingborough Council’s event page or the Planet Ark National Tree Day webpage.

There will be children’s activities, guided walks, displays and food.

Parking is in the Snug Beach carpark and along the Snug Beach foreshore.

Wear closed toe shoes and clothes that can get muddy and rug up against the cold weather.
