Council has recently upgraded Pelverata Road to improve safety and reduce the need for ongoing repairs.
Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the Kaoota section of the road had been built more than a century ago to standards that weren’t suited to the local ground conditions or today’s traffic.
“Over time, with more vehicles using the road and heavier vehicles, the road surface was breaking down and needed frequent maintenance,” Cr Wriedt said.
“The works carried out along Pelverata Road included 600 metres of full road reconstruction, road stabilisation, road widening, drainage upgrades and a new spray seal.
“We also improved the intersection of Pelverata Road and McGuires Road, making it safer and easier for vehicles to access, and adjusted the narrow and winding carriageway to improve safety for all road users.
“These improvements are expected to greatly reduce the need for maintenance on this section of road, which will be welcome news for local residents.
The project ran from April to early August 2025 and cost $600,000, with $596,102 provided by the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Program.
“While work on the Kaoota end of Pelverata Road is complete, the Sandfly end of the road is still underway,” Cr Wriedt said.
“Works near Sandfly are progressing well, with further stabilisation and stormwater upgrades currently being completed.
“The final road seal is planned for the warmer months, currently scheduled for November 2025.”
