Film Festival returns to the Kingborough Community Hub

Kingborough Council is partnering with Arts Screen Events to present the Stage and Screen Film Festival running October 3 to 5.

Acting Mayor, Clare Glade-Wright said the festival will showcase a diverse program of award-winning films, documentaries and live theatre screenings at the Kingborough Community Hub.

“This event is a vibrant celebration of film and theatre and will provide something for everyone,” said Cr Glade-Wright.

“We’re thrilled to bring such a rich and engaging cultural experience to Kingborough.

“The festival opens with a truly unique screening of Sailboat, accompanied by a live performance of the soundtrack by the Grigoryan Brothers, followed by a Q&A session with writer and director Cameron Nugent,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Saturday, 4 October: Screening of Two Prosecutors, a Cannes Film Festival award-winning film set in the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union.
  • Sunday, 5 October: A day of back-to-back screenings beginning with the digitally restored Australian classic Storm Boy, followed by Inte Alia.

“The festival will conclude with a live performance by the Choir of High Hopes, followed by the screening of Sing Sing,“ Cr Glade-Wright said.

“Sing Sing is a deeply moving true story about prison inmates who find hope and healing through theatre.

“Remarkably, many of the actors in the film are former inmates portraying themselves.

“Many of the films featured in the Stage and Screen Festival will be exclusive to the Kingborough Community Hub, and tickets are expected to sell quickly,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

A licensed candy bar will be open throughout the weekend selling Tasmanian wines alongside a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
