Winners announced for Kingborough Art Prize

The opening night of the 2025 Kingborough Art Prize Exhibition was celebrated at the Kingborough Community Hub on Friday, 19 September.

Deputy Mayor, Clare Glade-Wright announced the award winners, recognising outstanding artistic achievement across number of categories.

The independent judging panel included local artists Lysbeth Driessen and Guy Roberts.

Emma Belle Smallwood won the Overall Best Work for her acrylic and oil painting ‘Home Body’.

“Judges said it was an outstanding masterful meld of portrait and landscape, providing a narrative of place, time, and emotions,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

Debbie Clark won the Best in Painting award for her oil painting ‘Summer Joy, Bay of Fires’.

Roger Murphy won the Best Work on Paper for his watercolour painting ‘Evening Light, Douglas River’.

Sadie Frampton won the Youth Category for her oil painting ‘Billie’, judges said it was a mature portrait, confidently achieved.

Mary McLean won Best in Design/3D for her artwork ‘Easy over’.

Deputy Mayor, Glade-Wright said this year Kingborough Council partnered with the Lions Club of Kingborough, which included the addition of a Youth Category.

“This collaboration strengthens the foundations of the Art Prize and ensures it continues to grow and become more accessible to our broader community,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

“Together, we’re building something that will flourish for years to come.

“This year’s exhibition brought together a collection of over 220 artworks, spanning drawing, painting, digital media and sculpture.

“We are proud to showcase the art exhibited, which provides artists a vibrant opportunity to connect, share, and sell their work.”

The Kingborough Art Prize Exhibition and Sale is open until Sunday, 28 September.
