Join Kingborough’s Disability Advisory Committee

Kingborough Council’s Disability Inclusion and Access Advisory Committee (DIAAC) is currently looking for new members.
Kingborough Mayor and Chair of DIAAC Paula Wriedt said the group would love to hear from people who want to help improve access and inclusion for our community.
“Accessibility isn’t just about meeting minimum standards, it’s about creating spaces that are inclusive, welcoming, and reflective of the diverse people in our community,” Cr Wriedt said.
“The committee meets every two months and provides advice to Kingborough Council on disability access and inclusiveness.
“The goal is to identify obstacles and provide solutions by removing barriers.
“The committee also consults with Council about what we’re working on and how it might affect accessibility in the community.
“Becoming a member is a rewarding experience as we develop ways make it easier for people with a disability and work towards providing the same opportunities for everyone.
“The committee has been very active in the past few years with a number of projects, including the accessible beach matting at Kingston Beach and the Changing Places facility at the Kingborough Community Hub.
“If you have lived experience of disability, are caring for someone with disability or work or volunteer for a service provider in the area we would love to hear from you,” Cr Wriedt said.
Expressions of interest will close on Friday, 21 November 2025, and can be made on Council’s website https://www.kingborough.tas.gov.au/council/committees/disability-inclusion-access-advisory-committee/diaac-community-nominations/
