Bicycle Network’s National Ride2Work Day is on Wednesday, 15 October, encouraging the community to jump on their bikes and commute to work.
Acting Mayor Clare Glade-Wright said the day promotes the benefits of cycling to improve health, the environment and save money.
“Kingborough is home to many tracks and trails suitable for bike riders, including the popular Whitewater Creek Track,” Cr Glade-Wright said.
“This track connects to Kingston Park and features a bike repair station located next to the pump track and the BBQ shelter near the open space area.
“The bike repair station has a bike pump, retractable tools and a wheel chock to hold your bike, allowing cyclists to fix issues with their bike and continue to enjoy their ride.
“The beginners pump track and 300m learn to ride track that circles the open space area is wonderful spot for children and beginners to ride their bikes and practice their skills.
“Kingborough’s popular Tracks and Trails book, which showcases tracks throughout Kingborough including ones suitable for bikes, has recently had more copies printed, ready for summer.
“Copies are available at the Kingborough Council Civic Centre and it’s free to download from Council’s website,” Cr Glade-Wright said.
Streets People Love Hobart and Kingborough Council’s Bicycle Advisory Committee are hosting a breakfast for Bicycle Network’s Ride2Work Day on Wednesday, 15 October.
The morning event runs from 7.30am to 9am at Maxie Coffee, located at 26 Channel Highway, Kingston.
Mark Donnellon, President of Streets People Love Hobart said Ride2Work Day is an ideal opportunity to try out riding to work.
“Riding to work is a very effective way to get some mild exercise into your day,” Mark Donnellon said.
“Be it on a bicycle or e-bike, 2km or 10km, commuting by bike a couple of days a week will improve your mood and energy.
“Whether you’re trying out bike commuting for the day or a seasoned rider, come celebrate low-impact, health-boosting transport with a free coffee and other breakfast giveaways for riders,” Mark Donnellon said.
