Silverwater Park open for play

Silverwater Park has now been redeveloped into a vibrant new playground ready for families to explore and enjoy.

Mayor Paula Wriedt said the playground in Woodbridge was built with extensive community consultation and includes two BBQs, shelter, and public toilets.

“The new playground features a stacked log play structure, basket swing and a new stainless-steel slide, complete with a tunnel underneath,” Cr Wriedt said.

“The new BBQ area, shelter and gathering circle are ideal for families to gather and enjoy this summer.

“We kindly ask everyone to keep off the newly grassed areas until the lawn and plants are established.

“This will help ensure the park is beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

“A State Government grant, administered by the Local Government Association of Tasmania, funded the pedestrian pathway that connects the Channel Highway to the playground and foreshore.

“Signage and sculptures will be installed at the park, funded by an arts grant from the West Winds Community Centre, which shares the Parrabah Whale First Nations creation story.

“The new foreshore carpark was built with a permeable pavement system called TrueGrid.

“This provides a free-draining, low-maintenance gravel finish that greatly reduces sediment runoff onto the waterfront.

“There are a couple of minor issues that will now be finalised including enhanced drainage and additional signage.

“An official opening event is planned to be held closer to Christmas, in collaboration with West Winds Community Centre, stay tuned for updates.” Cr Wriedt said.
