The Alonnah Skate Park on Bruny Island is set for an upgrade thanks to the fundraising efforts of the skate and surf group Cloudy Bay Supergroms and Bruny Island community groups.
Mayor Paula Wriedt said this project was driven by the Supergroms, who fundraised on GoFundMe with donations from individuals and community groups.
“The Cloudy Bay Supergroms have done a wonderful job crowdfunding the skate park extension, with major contributions from The Bruny Island Penguins Cricket Club, Bruny Island Cork Club, Bruny Island Community Association, Island Social Coffee and Flatrock Concrete,” Cr Wriedt said.
“Currently the skate park’s beginners area is very limited, with little scope for skill progression before tackling the more advanced skate park feature.
“The extension will offer with a larger flat section with beginner roll-in features, ideal for people learning to skate.
“Council has assisted with project management, planning approval and a professional skate park designer for the extension.
“The Alonnah Skate Park extension work started recently and there will be partial access to the skate park during construction.
“Please follow the safety signs and instructions from the contractors,” Cr Wriedt said.
