Resilience boost for Alonnah and Middleton communities

The Alonnah and Middleton Community Halls have received important upgrades with the addition of new generators and emergency management equipment.

Acting Mayor Clare Glade-Wright said the upgrade increases the halls’ readiness for future emergencies, particularly if the communities become isolated during an event.

“The new generators are a much-needed addition for both Alonnah and Middleton,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

“In the event of a power outage, these generators will ensure that the community halls remain operational.

“The Alonnah Hall is Council’s evacuation centre for Bruny Island, so it’s important to have a reliable backup power source.

“The generator is installed on a trailer and can be moved to different sites on Bruny Island if needed.

“Council has also added resilience kits to the halls which include multi-device charging stations, solar powered radios, torches, large lights and thermal blankets.

“Resilience and Recovery Tasmania provided funding support for the generators through their Isolated Communities grant funding.

“This assisted Council with physical resources and equipment to support communities during and immediately after disasters,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

The upgrade for Alonnah Community Hall was commemorated on Wednesday, 26 November with a community event.
