The Alonnah Skate Park on Bruny Island is set to host a free summer BBQ and community event on Friday, 16 January.
Mayor Paula Wriedt said the event is part of Kingborough’s school holiday program, and will feature skaters from Jimmy’s Skate and Street crew showing off their skills.
“The Alonnah community event is the perfect time to see the recently completed extension to the skate park in action, with demonstrations from Jimmy’s Skate and Street crew,” Cr Wriedt said.
“The event runs from 12noon to 3pm with a free community BBQ and giveaways.
“Along with watching the skate demo, attendees can take part in circus skills from the Sands Family performers.
“There will also be free activities on offer including hair feathers, temporary tattoos and fabric art.
“The extension to the Alonnah Skate Park was designed for people learning to skate, providing a larger flat section with beginner roll-in feature.
“The upgrade was thanks to the fundraising efforts of the skate and surf group Cloudy Bay Supergroms, as well as Bruny Island community groups.
“Council assisted with project management, planning approval and funding the design of the extension.
“All ages are welcome to the Alonnah Skate Park Summer BBQ, and there will be a free bus for Kingborough residents aged 12-19,” Cr Wriedt said.
