Building stronger communities through Kingborough Together

Council delivered the Kingborough Together project in 2025, a one-year initiative supported by a Tasmanian Government’s Social Cohesion Grant.

Mayor Paula Wriedt said the program provided a variety of community events and workshops to foster inclusivity, celebrate cultural diversity, and strengthen community connections.

“This initiative reflects Council’s commitment in creating a welcoming and respectful community,” said Cr Wriedt.

“The 2025 program ran monthly workshops and cooking classes which have been a wonderful way to see the community learn and appreciate different cultures.

“A special event during Refugee Week in June involved the screening of Our Journey, a powerful short film by young people from multicultural backgrounds, followed by a Q&A with the film makers.

“Council’s Community Services team also delivered a number family friendly, inclusive events throughout the year, including the End of Year Celebration held at the Kingston Neighbourhood House recently.

“Thank you to the community for embracing the Kingborough Together program.

“I’m proud to lead a caring community here in Kingborough, one that welcomes and supports new residents,” said Cr Wriedt.

This initiative aligned with Council’s Multicultural Action Plan, launched in August 2024, and was developed with input from local multicultural communities to address racism and promote inclusion.
