Court renovations underway at Kingborough Sports Centre

Kingborough Sports Centre’s (KSC) annual court maintenance program is underway.

Mayor Paula Wriedt said court maintenance is vital to preserving the longevity and safety of our courts, which are among the busiest in the region.

“The courts at KSC host sports and activities for more than 300 days each year, with some days seeing up to 10 hours of continuous use,” Cr Wriedt said.

“All four courts will be temporarily closed between January 17 to 24 to allow for floor maintenance on courts 1 and 2 and for the installation of brand-new basketball hoops on courts 3 and 4.

“The full floor maintenance process involves two days of sanding followed by two coats of sealant, which requires extra time to properly dry and cure.

“Council’s maintenance program helps provide a safe, high-quality playing surfaces for a variety of sports.

“This combined with daily sweeping and washing throughout the year from our KSC team, maintains the courts to a professional standard.

“Kingborough is fast becoming Tasmania’s premier sporting destination with JackJumpers HPC progressing well and the AFL HPC commencing soon, both in the same precinct.

“It’s important our local facilities are well maintained and safe for the community.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding during this short closure and look forward to welcoming everyone back to improved facilities,” Cr Wriedt said.
