Entries are now open for the 2026 Great Kingborough Bake Off competition, which will be held at the Kingborough Community Hub on Saturday, 21 February.
Mayor Paula Wriedt said the popular event is Council’s contribution to the TasPride Summer Festival, and will feature colourfully decorated cakes and cupcakes created by community members who will compete across a number of categories.
“The Great Kingborough Bake Off is now in its third year and we have been thoroughly impressed by the quality and imagination of the entries each year,” Cr Wriedt said.
“This LGBTIQA+ inclusive event is open to everyone, and I can’t wait to see how creative the community gets this year designing and decorating cupcakes and cakes across our three categories.
“The entries in the aged 8 to 12 aged category will feature six standard cupcakes, incorporating a theme, with the winner receiving a $100 voucher from Tsubame Sushi.
“The entries in the aged 13 to 18 category will decorate a 20cm rainbow cake, with the winner receiving a $200 voucher from Minimax.
“The Open Award category is for a novelty cake with a diversity theme, with the winner receiving a $500 voucher from Minimax.
“The People’s Choice award winner will receive a $100 voucher from The Salty Dog.
“The cakes will be judged by industry experts on their design, creativity and how well they reflect the theme.
“Community members are welcome to come along, have a cup of tea and put in a vote for the People’s Choice Award.
“There will also be cakes and other baked delights available to purchase from Honey Child, with free tea and coffee provided,” Cr Wriedt said.
