Expression of Interest – Glensyn Unit Tenancy

 

Kingborough Council invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the tenancy of a single unit located at the Glensyn residential unit complex in Alonnah, Bruny Island.

The EOI will remain open for a minimum of fourteen (14) days and will close on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Background

The Glensyn Units are four conjoined single-bedroom units that provide affordable housing for elderly residents of Bruny Island. Kingborough Council has managed the units since the mid‑1990s. One unit will become available for tenancy.

The site is centrally located in Alonnah, within walking distance of:

  • Alonnah Health Centre
  • Community Hall
  • Oval
  • Cricket Club
  • School

 

Eligibility Requirements

To submit an EOI for tenancy, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a current or past resident of Bruny Island.
  • Live independently and alone (units cannot accommodate couples).
  • Be over 65 years of age, or live with a disability.
  • Receive a full Centrelink or DVA pension.
  • Not own or hold an interest in any property.
  • Be capable of maintaining the premises in a safe and clean condition, inside and out.
  • Be able to provide, upon request:
    • a satisfactory Police Check, and
    • a Credit Report.

Late EOIs or EOIs that do not meet the eligibility requirements will not be assessed.

 

Assessment Process

The assessment of EOIs will consider the following:

  • Eligibility against the stated requirements
  • Referee information
  • Medical practitioner information (if required)
  • Police / “good person” check
  • Credit report
  • Any other matter Council deems appropriate

Council may seek input from a suitably qualified professional (e.g., Doctor, Nurse, Police Officer etc.) from the Bruny Island Community Health Services or Tasmania Police to assist with final assessment.
