Kingborough Council will soon commence Stage 2 of the Browns Road, Kingston Reconstruction Project.
Mayor Paula Wriedt said the works represent an important investment in safety and accessibility for the local community.
“Stage 1 of Browns Road delivered a safer upgraded road and footpath closest to the Southern Outlet end through to 32 Browns Road, near the Australia Post depot,” Cr Wriedt said.
“Stage 2 continues that work down to the Channel Highway intersection.
“The road’s condition required reconstruction and this project has been designed to deliver long‑term benefits for motorists, pedestrians and residents.
“We’re upgrading around 400 metres of road by building a new sealed surface, kerbs and gutters, improving the intersection to the Channel Highway and a new concrete footpath from the Wetlands Park and Ride.
“The existing asphalt footpath on the western side will be replaced with concrete.
“The improvements to the Browns Road and Channel Highway intersection will reduce crash risk, particularly for buses, trucks and large vehicles, and will improve traffic flow.
“We are also taking this opportunity to make some important stormwater upgrades in this area.
“Works associated with the Browns Road reconstruction project will be separated into three key phases with temporary traffic changes in place while works are occurring.
“Construction will require the temporary closure of the left‑hand southbound Kingston slip lane on the Southern Outlet, meaning all southbound traffic will need to continue to the Huon Highway roundabout to access Kingston.
“A number of bus services to Firthside will experience some disruptions.
“Bus service changes will be communicated through Metro and Tassielink, which we will share on Council’s platforms, along with signage in the affected areas.
“Works are scheduled to begin mid-March and the community will be updated regularly as the project progresses
“Residents and businesses on Browns Road and in Firthside have been sent a letter with upcoming traffic changes and works schedule,” Cr Wriedt said.
