Joint Media Release: Kingborough Council and Tasmania Devils Football Club
The Kingborough Sports Precinct reaches a key milestone this week, with the tender for the construction of Oval 3 being issued.
Oval 3 will become the future home for Kingborough Tigers Football Club and will be utilised by Tasmania Football Club.
The State Government funded project is a three-way partnership between the State Government, Kingborough Council, and the Tasmania Football Club.
Kingborough Council is leading the delivery of community infrastructure across the precinct, while responsibility for delivering the new oval has transitioned to the Tasmania Devils Football Club to improve project coordination and efficiency.
The Tasmania Football Club is also responsible for delivering the Club’s Training and Administration Centre.
This project is closely linked to Oval 3, with both sharing the same location, timeline, and supporting infrastructure.
Given this strong interconnection, having a single organisation responsible for delivery enables more efficient coordination and project delivery.
Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said Council has worked closely with all project partners and stakeholders during the planning stage and are excited to see it progress to the next phase.
“This project represents a major investment in Kingborough’s sporting future and we will continue to support the project as it progresses.
“The new oval will be home for the Kingborough Tigers and an asset for the wider community,” Mayor Wriedt said.
Acting Minister for Sport Gavin Pearce said the Tasmanian Government welcomed the next step in progressing the High Performance Centre.
“With the Devils already scheduled to take to the field on 21 March in the VFL and 16 May in the VFLW, this is the next step in the plan to take the teams to the biggest stage,” Mr Pearce said.
“It is a clear sign the AFL and AFLW Devils are on the way and that we’re setting them up for success from day one.”
Tasmania Football Club General Manager Infrastructure and Commercial Michael Thorn said the Club are thrilled to issue this first tender to market in partnership with Kingborough Council.
“The creation of Oval 3 is a key part of the overall precinct and it makes sense for us to be leading that work in conjunction with the Training and Administration facility.
“We are working hard to have the next tender issued to market as soon as possible.
“This project is of major importance to our Club as we commence our football operations and power toward 2028.
“The working relationship that exists between the partners and community organisations is so powerful and we are very confident that together we are going to deliver an extraordinary sporting precinct for all users,” Mr Thorn said.
