Helping New Kingborough Residents Feel Confident in the Bush

Kingborough Council is inviting new residents to take part in a friendly, guided nature walk at Dru Point in Margate on Friday, 22 May.

Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said the walk was aimed at helping people become familiar with the Tasmanian bush, feel more confident accessing natural areas and develop a stronger sense of belonging in Kingborough.

“This guided walk for new residents offers a welcoming space for learning and is especially helpful for people who are new to Kingborough and may be unfamiliar with our natural areas,” Cr Wriedt said.

“We understand the Tasmanian bush can feel unfamiliar if you have previously lived in a different landscape.

“This walk is about helping people understand our local environment, share local knowledge about caring for these natural areas and what makes places like Dru Point such valued community spaces.

“No level of English is required, and participants are welcome to bring someone to support them if that helps them feel at ease.

“Participants will be guided through Dru Point, learning about local plants, wildlife, and places to walk and enjoy nature across Kingborough.

“The walk will finish with a hot drink, snacks, and friendly conversation, along with information about other local reserves and walks people may like to visit as they become more familiar with the area.

“Activities like this help new residents feel more confident and build connections with their local environment,” Cr Wriedt said.
